The Southwestern Spartans baseball team faced off against DMACC in a competitive scrimmage on 9/11/2024. The Spartans have a grueling scrimmage schedule knowing to be the best, you have to beat the best. DMACC concluded their season last year at the World Series.

Key Performers:

• Alexander Arroyo: Demonstrated his speed and offensive prowess, reaching base three times, stealing two bases, and driving in one RBI.
• Ismael Bencosme: Had a perfect day at the plate with a 1/1 record, drawing two walks and contributing a sacrifice fly.
• Steven Garcia: Went 2/2, showing strong hitting skills.
• Luke Connolly: Notable for his 1/2 performance, including a triple and an RBI.
• Carlos Allen: Contributed with a double, going 1/3.
• Brayden Resch: Added an RBI to his 1/3 performance.
• Eli Eldred: Made an impact with a 1/2 record, including an RBI and a stolen base.

On the mound, the Spartans were solid:

• Alfred Aviles: Pitched one inning with two strikeouts and no runs allowed.
• Carter Smalley: Contributed two innings, recording one strikeout and no runs.
• Sebastian Medina: Added another scoreless inning.
• Luke Connolly: Provided one inning with one strikeout and no runs.
• Louie Hartkop: Finished strong with two innings, two strikeouts, and one run allowed.

Coach Chris Piperno reflected on the scrimmage, noting, "Always good to compete against teams that earn their way to the World Series. We continue to grow as a group as we learn how to play the game together."

The Spartans will look to build on this performance with another scrimmage against Indian Hills this Saturday before heading into the ICCAC Showcase and PBR KC JUCO Showcase.
