Spartan Baseball Shines In Double-Header Scrimmage

The Southwestern Spartans had an impressive showing in their scrimmages today against Coffeyville CC and Colby CC.

In Game 1 against Coffeyville, Eli Eldred set the tone by pitching 2 scoreless innings. Louie Hartkop, Colling Nardini, Cris Marrero, and Dawson Roberts each contributed an inning of scoreless relief. Anibal Montanez provided the offensive spark with a 3-run homerun, while Jackson Mcdanel added a 2 RBI double. Wyatt Throckmorton reached base three times, going 1/1 with an RBI and a stolen base, and Alexander Arroyo went 2/3 with a stolen base.

In Game 2, Jose Cherena and Wyatt Throckmorton each pitched 2 innings without allowing a run. Ben Amador and Andrew Guzman also pitched clean innings. Nathan Brown reached base twice and stole a base, Ismael Bencosme went 1/2 with an RBI and a stolen base, and Ryan Canaan went 2/2 with a triple and an RBI.

Coach Piperno remarked, "Great opportunity for our guys to play in one of the biggest JUCO events in the Midwest to showcase their skills. Played some good team baseball."

The Spartans have three games next week to continue building on their strengths and sharpening their skills.
