Boone, IA – October 2, 2024 – Southwestern Spartan Baseball, under the leadership of Head Coach Chris Piperno, took the field against Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in a competitive fall contest. Despite the challenges of facing a talented DMACC squad, the Spartans demonstrated their depth and fundamentals throughout the game.
Several key performers stood out for the Spartans. On the mound, Southwestern showcased a strong bullpen, with Lane Siemer, Lane Rolfs, Wyatt Throckmorton, Alexander Arroyo, Andrew Guzman, and Eli Eldred each throwing a scoreless inning. Their efforts kept the game within reach and highlighted the team's pitching depth.
At the plate, Anibal Montanez made his presence felt, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Ryan Canaan brought power to the lineup, hitting a solo home run in his 1-for-3 performance. Wyatt Throckmorton added to his contributions with a double, while Brayden Resch also went 1-for-3 with a double.
"Always good to play top opponents in the area. It was a great opportunity to test our fundamentals against a talented team," said Coach Piperno, reflecting on the game.
Looking ahead, the Spartans will continue refining their process. They have an intrasquad scrimmage this Friday and a doubleheader in Burlington, IA, on Sunday, where they'll focus on sharpening their fundamentals.
