As March comes to a close, the Southwestern Spartans baseball team finds itself in the midst of a challenging Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) race. With a 3-7 conference record and a 7-21 overall mark, the Spartans sit tied for 7th place in the league standings, competing against some of the top-ranked teams in the NJCAA.
Conference Leaders and Challenges
The ICCAC remains one of the most competitive leagues in junior college baseball, with #5 Southeastern (8-0, 23-6) and #12 Kirkwood (8-1, 23-9) leading the charge. Iowa Central (#19, 6-2, 22-6) and Iowa Western (7-2, 19-12) also find themselves in the upper tier of the standings, making every conference matchup a battle for positioning.
Southwestern, competing in Division I alongside Iowa Western and Indian Hills, has faced tough opponents week after week. Despite their record, the Spartans have shown resilience in close games, proving they can compete in a league filled with nationally recognized programs.
Road Ahead for the Spartans
With conference play in full swing, the Spartans will look to gain momentum in their upcoming series. Improvement at the plate and on the mound will be crucial as they aim to climb the standings and make a push for postseason contention.
