Max Spitzmiller of St. Charles, Missouri, joined the Spartan baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2023-24 academic year.

Spitzmiller, a recent graduate of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, was a starting pitcher for the Bearcats from 2018-23. During his time at Northwest, the team was able to increase the K:BB ratio from 1:1 in 2021 to 2.5:1 during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Spitzmiller was a First Team All-MIAA pitcher during the spring of 2022 and finished in the top two in career innings pitched and strikeouts in Northwest history. The Bearcats were conference champions in 2018.

Spitzmiller has been a private pitching instructor for pitchers at all levels (beginners to college-level pitchers) since 2021.

In addition to coaching, Spitzmiller is a residence hall coordinator at Southwestern.
