Spartans Break Win Record at DMACC

It was a record-setting win for Southwestern as they defeated DMACC 98-69 on the road Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017.  The victory pushed their season record to 26-1, which breaks the single-season win mark of 25 set by last year's team and the 1996-97 team coached by Bill Taylor, current SWCC vice president of instruction.

"I'm proud of the group and I know Coach Taylor is one of our biggest fans," said Spartan Head Coach Todd Lorensen.  "His support along with countless others on our campus has made this possible."

Southwestern played without Brodric Thomas who was sidelined with a day-to-day injury and Jordan Johnson and Jamil Maddred, who both picked up two early fouls. Playing with a short bench, Southwestern took a 38-34 lead into halftime.  A quick 7-0 run to start the second half pushed the lead to double digits and the game never got much closer.  KeShawn Wilson hit four second half three pointers on way to a team-high 19 points while Lavon Hightower and Johnson both added 13 points.

"I felt we missed some good looks in the first half that in the second half we knocked down. It was good to see KeShawn get it going," added Lorensen.

Southwestern sits atop the ICCAC standings at 8-1 and is currently ranked #2 in the NJCAA Division II.  They are back in action for sophomore day on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. against Iowa Lakes.  The first meeting was a 96-95 overtime thriller.
