Spartans Hot Early, Win Big

SWCC MBB vs North Central Missouri College

Southwestern jumped to a quick 13-0 lead and never looked back in a 103-78 win over North Central Missouri College on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017. NCMC answered with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 13-7, but it was all Spartans from there as they took a 53-26 lead into the break.  Alijah Thomas had 16 points, seven assists, and four steals in the victory.

"We set the tone with our defense and that allowed our offense to take care of itself," said Southwestern Coach Todd Lorensen. "I thought we were solid on both ends the majority of the night."

Sophomore Terence Shelby continued his hot shooting going 5-8 from long distance and notching 21 points to lead the team in scoring. Four others hit the double-figure mark in scoring: Khallid Edwards with 18, Gatdoar Kueth with 15, Ryan Warren with 13, and Nate Lee with 10.

"It's a great luxury to have multiple offensive weapons," said Lorensen. "Chad Moran is averaging double digits and didn't score tonight, so that shows how strong our depth is."

The NJCAA #1 ranked Spartans moved to 7-0 on the season and return to action at Little Priest Tribal College on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m. Southwestern won their first game against the Warriors on November 4 in Creston by a score of 101-78.
