Men's Golf Releases Spring Schedule

The Southwestern Spartan men's golf team is coming off the second-best fall season in school history, posting a 310.4 team scoring average. Throughout the fall, the Spartans garnered a team win at the Simpson Invitational, finished runner-up at the Kansas City Cup, and took top-10 at the National Championship Preview tournament.

The Spring schedule looks very similar: starting in Kansas, making a swing up to the Simpson tournament, and hopefully concluding at the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship being held in Joplin, Missouri.

The Spartans are highlighted by Freshmen Aidan Rooke and Robin Persson, both on pace to set the school record for low season scoring average and also low career scoring average. Southwestern only has two sophomores on the eight-person roster, Thomas Esterhuyse and Ethan Brumbaugh. Wrapping up the rest of the roster are freshmen, Sebastian Camacho, Marco Guimaraes, Stetson McIlravy, and Ryan Thompson.

Southwestern will start their championship-season with a trip to Lawrence, Kansas to compete in the Ottawa University Spring Invitational on March 7 and 8. This tournament was where the team started their spring 2021 season as well, so will be a familiar course for the sophomores. Next up is a tournament the Spartans have frequented over the years, the Graceland University Spring Invitational held at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville, Missouri.

The third tournament of the spring is the highlight of the regular-season, the Prairie Dunes Collegiate hosted by Sterling College. Prairie Dunes has played host to the 2020 Big 12 Championships, the 2002 US Women's Open, the 2006 US Senior Open, and the 2014 NCAA Division 1 Men's National Championships. Wrapping up the season is the Storm Spring Classic at Indianola Country Club and the NIACC Spring Invitational held at Mason City Country Club.

Tune in on social media to follow the Spartans on their quest to the National Championship.
