FOR RELEASE --

The ICCAC announced the Division II Men's Golf All-Region Awards on Friday, including the 2022 Division II Player and Coach of the Year. Kirkwood led the way this year in both the Coach & Player of the Year award after winning this 2022 North Central District Championship.

Starting off the list of First Team All-region selections was this year's Region XI Division II Men's Golf Player of the Year, Brandon McCarty of Kirkwood. McCarty was one of three golfers to tie for the lead at +3 the North Central District Championship, but fell just short in the sudden death playoff. McCarty, a freshman, had eight top-5 finishes this season and two victories  including a runner-up finish at the Park University Spring Classic. His score counted for team scores in 21 of 22 tournaments.

As mentioned before, three golfers tied for first place at the end of regulation play at the North Central District Championship last week. With a clutch birdie putt in the playoff, Ty Heimes of Northeast secured the outright victory. A First Team All-Region performer, Heimes was a solid leader for the Hawks this season with seven top-10 finishes this season while also being the 40th ranked player in NJCAA Division II.

The third golfer to finish the district tournament tied for first place was Kirkwood's Kolby Shackelford. Shackelford is currently the 37th ranked golfer in NJCAA Division II and finished in the top-5 in four different outings this spring. He helped lead the Eagles to their seventh straight national qualifier victory and earned First Team All-Region status.

Hawkeye landed a golfer to the First Team in sophomore Tom Bell. Bell finished tied in fourth place at this year's district champions, shooting +9 for the tournament. Bell has been an all-star for the RedTails all season with four tournament wins and 14  top-10 finishes throughout the season. Bell also shot the school's new record low 18-hole score with a 5-under par 67 at the NIACC Invite. He was named the 2021-22 RedTail Male Athlete of the Year. He is committed to Bowling Green State (Ohio) University this fall.

Rounding out the list of first team All-Region honorees was Tyler Sansgaard of DMACC. Sansgaard also tied for fourth place at the district championship with Bell. Sansgaard finished the regular season with three tournament wins, five top 5 finishes and was top 10 in 9 of 11 tournaments. He also won the NJCAA Fall Preview.

The Region XI Division II Men's Golf Coach of the Year award this year went to Darin Pint of Kirkwood. Along with the two First Team selections mentioned earlier, the rest of the rotation for the Eagles also find themselves among the Second and honorable mention selections this season. Pint, a member of the NJCAA Men's Golf Hall of Fame, led Kirkwood to their seventh consecutive NJCAA qualifying championship this spring and 16th in the past 18 seasons.
