SWCC Track & Field hosting winter clinics for speed and throwers

Dutch Invitational

Southwestern Community College will be hosting a pair of clinics for athletes this winter on the following Sundays: Jan. 29, Feb. 5, and Feb. 26.

The Winter Throws Clinic will focus on drills for shot put and discus, and athletes will also have the opportunity to get full throws in for the shot put.

The Winter Speed Clinic is for athletes in all sports - not just track & field - and will focus on proper acceleration technique and max velocity sprinting. Athletes participating in this clinic will be able to get automatic-timed 10 meter flys, and will also have the opportunity to work on block starts and hurdles if they wish.

Among the SWCC student-athletes helping at the camps are Molly Venteicher and Justin Cunningham. Venteicher is the SWCC school record holder in the indoor weight throw, outdoor shot put, outdoor hammer throw, and outdoor javelin. She is the reigning Region XI champion in the outdoor shot put and placed 10th at the NJCAA Outdoor National Championships in the event in 2021. Cunningham, meanwhile, is the school record holder in the men's 100 meter dash and placed 20th at the NJCAA Outdoor National Championships in the event in 2021.

The throws and speed clinics will run concurrently, beginning at 2 p.m. on each clinic date, and running until 4 p.m. The cost for each camper is $75 and gets the camper access to each of the three clinic dates. Families with multiple campers can contact Scott Vicker for discount pricing.

The clinics will be held at 612 New York Ave. in Creston, located next door to Tractor Supply Co.
